Project Co-ordinator Wanted

The Cotswold Canals Trust is gearing up to resume major volunteer restoration works in the eastern section of the T&S Canal. Over the last few months, small working parties have been working on Rucks Bridge at Eysey and the proposal is to extend this work to the nearby Eysey Lock. This will dramatically increase the scale of the project and the Trust will need to attract external visiting groups, such as the Waterway Recovery Group, in order to complete the work in a sensible timescale.

We are looking for someone who lives towards the eastern end of the canal to co-ordinate the various groups and their team leaders who will work on the project. The tasks will include:

    Project planning
Matching tasks with skills and identifying training needs
Liaising with CCT, WRG and potentially other groups
Encouraging volunteers and groups to engage with the project
Managing the procurement of materials, equipment and services
Day to day liaison with the tenant farmer/landowner and other groups affected by the work
Liaising with the CCT Office to book accommodation for visiting groups

The role does not require attendance at every working party but it is important that the volunteers are confident that the Trust is providing everything they need to have an enjoyable and productive time. Similarly, the landowners, their tenant farmer and others need to be confident that the Trust is running the project well.

The type of person we are looking for should be:

    Well organised
A good communicator (email is essential)
Able to solve problems and deal with unexpected issues
Able to work well as part of a team
Enthusiastic and have the time necessary to make the role work

The Trust will provide training as necessary and there are a number of people within the Trust who have organised similar projects and/or have technical expertise who will be able to assist.

This is an important project which we hope will lead to others at the eastern end of the canal. It has strategic significance to the Trust as we endeavour to raise the profile of the canal in the area ready to attract the funding needed for its complete restoration.
