Eclipse 99

On Wednesday 11th August 1999 at 11:11am there was a total eclipse of the sun in parts of Devon and Cornwall. We went along to see what there was to see and to experience the eclipse and positioned ourselves on high ground at the south of Dartmoor with views across Plymouth and Torbay.

Unfortunately the weather was cloudy so the sun was not directly visible, however, everything went dark at the appointed time and hundreds of flashes from hundreds of cameras dotted around the countryside for miles around could be seen. Here are a couple of pictures to illustrate how dark it was.

Light starts to return on the horizon.

The next total eclipse visible in the UK will not be until the year 2090 by which time Ken and Beck expect to be with their maker. Dan and Liz might just make it if they live to be over 100 years old. Anyway - WE WERE ALL THERE THIS TIME!!
